Wild swimming!

(More coming soon!)

Bassenthwaite Lake

The only 'official' lake in the Lake District! It's only a few of miles away so you can walk through the fields there (see walks page), or drive down for a wild swim or paddle. Bassenthwaite is not a busy lake so its usually lovely and peaceful there, it's also a shallow lake so has a reputation of being one of the warmer lakes to swim in. Swim spots here at Scarness Bay, from layby's along the A66 or from parking bays near Bassenthwaite Sailing Club. Here is a Map of the Lake.

Buttermere

in the beautiful Buttermere valley, this is one of the smaller lakes in a very scenic setting with very little boating activity on the water. There is some entry spots from car parks nearby but parking spaces can be limited, but if you park in the village and follow the footpath that runs alongside the lake there are plenty of options on foot.

Derwent water

Based in Keswick, so only just a short drive away, Derwent Water has a lot of access points for wild swimming with a footpath around most of the lake. It is a very popular lake with lots of traffic on and off the water, so when swimming we'd recommend using a tow float so can be easily seen by other users of the lake. Here is a Map of Derwent Water
